Perth Airport Information

General Airport Info Perth Airport serves domestic and international travellers and has flights connecting various important cities all across the world. It is one of the most important and widely used airports of Australia and has all the facilities necessary to help passengers fly safely and easily. The airport is operated by a private company, Perth Airport Pty Limited, under a 99-year lease from the commonwealth government. History The area where the airport is presently located was previously a golf course and then used as an RAAF base until 1945. In September 1952, the Guildford Aerodrome (as it was known) changed its status, as well as name to Perth Airport. It already had two runway strips by then. An international terminal was added in 1953. Infrastructure The total size of Perth Airport is 2,105 hectares. It is currently the fourth busiest airport in Australia and it is the largest airport in Western Australia. The airport has four major terminals, as well as one minor terminal. The flights at the airport are serviced by two runways. The airport handled almost 14,000,000 passengers, domestic and international, in 2012-2013. Services Apart from being a major passenger air transport service, the following services are also provided by the airport: • Aviation fuel • Air-freight • Air traffic control facility • In-flight catering facility • 24-hours firefighting, as well as rescue facilities. Other than that, the airport also offers meteorological services and an outdoor viewing platform that allows the public a near runway experience.
